Untitled III, 2023

75”x36”

Acrylic painting

“Untitled III” is a canvas of both historical echo and contemporary aspiration, a space where the gestation of revolution is as personal as it is collective. With each stroke of acrylic, I imbue the painting with layers of meaning, drawing from the ancient tale of Cyrus’s prophesied birth—a light from a daughter’s womb overtaking a kingdom, a harbinger of the end for a tyrant’s reign.

The architectural elements within the room, intentionally left incomplete, stand as metaphors for a revolution still in the making. The unpainted face of the pregnant woman at the core of this piece reflects the uncertainty of the future—yet her silhouette, full with potential, is a testament to the enduring hope that change is on the horizon.

Hovering above this scene is a hand, outlined as if awaiting the finality of a sacrifice, symbolizing the inevitable loss of activists, artists, and writers in the pursuit of transformation. It is a somber acknowledgment that the path to renewal often weaves through the gardens of martyrdom.

Amidst the constellation of hopes represented by the lights, my own portrait merges with the luminescence, embedding myself within the narrative, an emblem of my generation’s yearning to be the catalyst for change. In this, I see my peers and me as the current bearers of the dream, crafting a legacy that might fulfill the promise of a dreamt light, ushering in an era of justice and progress.

“Untitled III” stands as a visual manifesto, an unfinished symphony of a revolution that is both ancient and urgently present. It is a declaration that, though the gestation may be prolonged and the sacrifices many, the birth of hope remains an indelible prospect for Iran.
