You are what you seek, 2022

“You are What you Seek” is a triptych that embodies the profound adage from Rumi, “You are what you are searching for.” This work is a contemporary reflection on identity and self-perception, merging technology with introspection.

On the left, a QR code arises from the word ‘Human,’ a digital imprint of our collective identity. Its counterpart on the right, derived from ‘Ensan,’ the Farsi translation for human, mirrors this sentiment, rooting it firmly in my cultural heritage. Both codes, when scanned, yield ‘no results found’—a deliberate outcome that questions the utility and limitations of technology in defining our essence.

The central panel, intentionally left empty, serves as a reflective surface for the audience. It confronts viewers with their own image, a literal and figurative mirror that compels introspection. In the act of seeking, the audience is faced with themselves, a poignant reminder that often what we search for in the world around us is ultimately a journey inward.

It is an exploration of self, a dialogue between the words we use to define humanity and the images we construct of ourselves. “You are What you Seek” is an invitation to a meta-narrative where art and viewer merge, where the quest for meaning returns full circle, and where the seeker is met with their own gaze, discovering that they are, indeed, what they have been seeking.
